Packages of Ritz crackers are being recalled due to potentially incorrect labels that could be especially harmful for those with a peanut allergy.
Mondelēz International, the company behind the Ritz brand, announced the voluntary recall of some Ritz crackers on Tuesday, July 8. The affected products are boxes that contain individually wrapped packs of Ritz cracker sandwiches. While the boxes are labeled as the peanut butter variety, some of the individually wrapped packs may be incorrectly labeled as the cheese variety, despite actually being the peanut butter variety, according to the recall announcement published on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
Consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts are being warned that they may face serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by eating the potentially mislabeled packs of crackers. No illnesses have been reported as of July 8 over the recall.
According to the recall announcement, the recalled products were manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide. Consumers with a peanut allergy are urged not to eat the recalled products and to throw them out.
