Walmart Chicken Alfredo Recall in Montana After Listeria Deaths

If you’ve recently picked up a ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine alfredo meal from Walmart, it’s important to take a minute and check your fridge or freezer – it could be a matter of life or death.

A recall is underway for certain chicken Alfredo meals because of products linked to a Listeria outbreak that has already caused illness in 17 people across 13 states. Sadly, three people have died, with one pregnancy loss connected to this outbreak.

Which Meals Are Recalled?

The recall involves premade meals made by FreshRealm in California, Georgia, and Indiana. These products were sold under these names at Walmart:

  • MARKETSIDE Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine (32.8 oz tray) — Best by 06/27/25 or earlier
  • MARKETSIDE Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine and Broccoli (12.3 oz tray) — Best by 06/26/25 or earlier
  • HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo (12.5 oz tray) — Best by 06/19/25 or earlier

Check the packaging for establishment numbers: EST. P-50784, EST. P-47770, or EST. P-47718. If you spot any of these meals in your kitchen, do not eat them. Toss them or return them to Walmart.

Why This Recall Matters

Listeria isn’t like your usual foodborne bug. It can be especially harmful to seniors, pregnant women, newborns, and anyone with a weakened immune system. Serious complications can happen, including miscarriage and life-threatening infections.

Symptoms to watch for include fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, muscle aches, or stomach problems. If you’re in a high-risk group and ate one of these meals, keep an eye on your health for up to two months and check in with your doctor if anything feels off.

How Did This Happen?

In March, a batch of chicken alfredo tested positive for Listeria during routine checks and was destroyed. But the investigation found more recent cases connected to these FreshRealm products. The exact source of contamination isn’t confirmed yet, and authorities are still looking into it.

What You Should Do Now

Take a moment to search your fridge and freezer for any recalled chicken fettuccine alfredo meals from Walmart. If you find them, don’t eat them! Throw them out or bring them back to the store. And if you fall into a high-risk category and start feeling sick, call your doctor right away.

A Quick Food Safety Tip

Even if your meal looks cooked, heat it thoroughly before eating. Listeria can survive in the fridge but will be killed at 165°F. Using a food thermometer is the safest way to know your meal is hot enough.
