Something you bought was just recalled. What does that mean?

What happens when something you purchase is recalled? Is it voluntary or mandatory? And what does it mean for you?

A number of consumer products were recalled last week due to potential safety issues. These recalls span a range of concerns, including wood fragments, choking hazards and poisoning.

It’s important for consumers to be aware of these recalls and take appropriate action. Please review the following notices for details on affected products and recommended steps.

Soup & bowl products

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for certain soup and bowl products. These products may contain wood fragments due to contamination in an ingredient (cilantro) that was recalled by the FDA. Find the complete list and product images here.

The affected items were distributed to stores and institutions in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. More products may be added to this alert, potentially affecting other states.

The issue was discovered when a food establishment informed FSIS about the recalled ingredient.

Consumers and institutions are advised not to eat or serve these products. Please discard them or return them to the store where purchased.

For food safety questions, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or email MPHotline@usda.gov. To report a problem with meat, poultry, or egg products, visit https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF/.

Safetussin recall

Kramer Laboratories has issued a recall for Safetussin Max Strength Multi-Symptom Cough, Cold and Flu blister packs due to a risk of child poisoning.

The recalled product contains acetaminophen, and the packaging is not child-resistant, violating federal regulations. This poses a poisoning risk if young children swallow the medication.

Consumers who have purchased the 24-count caplet blister packs, sold at various stores and pharmacies nationwide between July 2024 and March 2025, are advised to immediately secure the product out of the reach of children. They should contact Kramer Laboratories for information on how to return or dispose of the product for a full refund.

No incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is involved to protect the public from unreasonable risks associated with consumer products and provides resources for reporting unsafe products and staying informed about recalls.

Fisher-Price recall: Tissue box toy

The recalled tissue box toy is white with red decorations and includes “tissues” made of a sensory cloth featuring a black and white wiggly striped pattern on one side and a yellow/green pattern with raised spots on the other.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled tissue box toy, remove it from the activity center, and keep it away from children.

To receive a free replacement toy for the activity center, consumers should contact Fisher-Price toll-free at 855-853-6224 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday, or visit their website at or www.service.mattel.com and click on “Recalls & Safety Alerts.”

The company has received one report of the tissue box toy coming apart, with an infant placing a small support bracket in their mouth; however, no injuries have been reported.

The Fisher-Price 3-in-1 SnugaPuppy Activity Centers, including the recalled tissue box toy, were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com and other websites from Nov. 2022 through Feb. 2025 for approximately $130.

Fisher-Price recall: Brunch & Go stroller toys

Fisher-Price, in conjunction with Health Canada, has announced a recall of the Brunch & Go Stroller Toy. The recalled toy, model number HGB85 found on the tag attached to the toast, includes a pretend avocado toast with three attachments: a mirror tomato, a crinkle bacon, and an egg teether.

Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled stroller toys and keep them away from children. To receive a free replacement stroller toy, consumers should contact Fisher-Price toll-free at 855-853-6224 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday, or visit their website at or www.service.mattel.com and click on “Recalls & Safety Alerts.”

The company has received five reports of the yolk of the toy egg cracking and breaking, with two instances of an infant having a small piece in their mouth, although no injuries have been reported.

The Brunch & Go Stroller Toy was sold at various nationwide retailers including Hobby Lobby, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Marshalls, Nordstrom, Ross, TJMaxx and Walmart stores, as well as online at Amazon.com, from Feb. 2022 through March 2025 for approximately $13.

Chicco child booster seat

Chicco USA, Inc. is recalling certain MyFit Zip Air Harness and Booster child restraint seats (CRS) due to a potential safety issue. The recall affects child seats with model numbers 07079561970070 and 04079561190070.

In specific configurations, these child seats may not adequately restrain a child during a crash, potentially allowing excessive chest movement. This failure to properly restrain a child increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash and means the child seats do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard

Owners of these child seats may contact Chicco’s customer service directly at 877-424-4226 for further information. Additionally, owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or visit nhtsa.gov for more details.

The recall potentially affects 30,984 units.

Celery sticks

Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. has voluntarily issued a precautionary advisory for a single production lot of washed and ready-to-eat 4 in/1.6oz Marketside Celery Sticks with a “best if used by” date of March 23, 2025. Although this product is past its recommended date and no longer available in stores, consumers may have frozen it for later use.

This advisory is being issued due to the potential for contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. The potential for contamination was discovered through random sampling by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this specific product.

The affected product is the 4-count 4 in/1.6 oz bundle pack of Marketside Celery Sticks sold at Walmart stores, identified by UPC code 6 81131 16151 0 on the back of the bag, with a “Best if Used by” date of March 23, 2025, and Lot Code: P047650 on the front of the bag.

Consumers who have this specific product, even if frozen, should not consume it and are advised to discard it immediately.

This voluntary advisory does not affect any other Marketside or Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. products.

The potentially affected celery sticks were distributed to select Walmart stores in Alabama, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Wyoming.
