A nostalgic peanut butter cracker brand is being recalled due to a potential labeling error.
Mondelēz Global recalled four carton sizes of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches that were sold in stores nationwide, according to a Tuesday notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Affected packages may be individually mislabeled as cheese sandwiches, even though the product inside contains peanut butter. The misprint could be dangerous for those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts.
Eight-pack, 20-pack and 40-pack cartons of peanut butter cracker sandwiches are included in the recall, as well as the 20-pack Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack carton. Outer cartons are correctly labeled and include an allergen advisory statement — it’s the individual wrappers that may be mislabeled.
The incorrect label would identify the peanut butter sandwiches as Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches. It would be labeled with the universal product code “0 44000 00211 4” and “Best When Used By” dates of “1 NOV 25 – 9 NOV 25” or “2 JAN 26 – 22 JAN 26.”
No illnesses or injuries have yet been reported to Mondelēz Global.
Consumers with a peanut allergy should dispose of the product. They can reach the company with questions at 844-366-1171.
