Popular supermarket Publix has announced a recall of multiple products after stating that “foreign material” had been found in several grocery chains. It was stated that two recalls of Market Ground Beef products in Georgia occurred nearly a week after it was announced there were concerns about a foreign material present.

Newsweek reported that the affected meat was sold in stores on June 26 at the Limestone Marketplace Publix in Gainesville, Georgia. It was also added that an earlier recall had been issued on June 25 for a store at the Abernathy Square Publix in Sandy Springs, which is a suburb of Atlanta.

The urgency of the recall is important to heed, as the presence of foreign material within the food could possibly harm the consumer’s body. Repeated incidents also raise questions about the effectiveness of current safety protocols.

It was reported that Publix has not issued a statement regarding the recall. This is not the first time that Publix has been at the center of a recall. Several times this year, the supermarket has repeatedly recalled several items, such as baby formula, due to the presence of lead.

At the start of this year, the company recalled several ground beef and pork products. According to the superstore, the affected products included the chain’s Market Ground Beef, Lean Ground Beef (seven percent fat), Ground Sirloin (10 percent fat), and Pork Market Ground, all of which expired on January 14 or 15.

Publix is not the only grocery retailer to suffer a product recall. Costco recently urged its customers to double-check their recent purchases as the retail giant announced a series of product recalls, some of which pose serious safety risks.

It was reported that the retail giant has removed two types of air conditioners in recent months due to warnings about potential mold growth in certain air conditioners. The recall of two Anker power bank models sold through Costco Next is particularly urgent.

Air conditioners from Danby and Midea, also sold under brands like Frigidaire and Mr. Cool, are part of the recall. These U-shaped window air conditioning units reportedly have insufficient water drainage, creating mold hazards that could lead to respiratory problems.

Owners of these air conditioners are advised to stop using them immediately. The specific products being recalled include the Midea U-Shape Window AC’s (Item #’s 1572673, 1657921, 1677429, 1768985, 2677450, and 2677429), and the Danby brand AC units, model DAC080B6IWDB-6, sold at Costco between June 10, 2021, and February 2, 2022.

The recall notice states that standing water in the unit may cause mold, which can trigger respiratory issues or other infections.

It was reported that Customers who purchased this unit should:

  • Stop using the affected AC unit right away.
  • Reach out to Midea at 1-888-345-0256 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET).
  • Go to www.MideaUrecall.expertinquiry.com for recall instructions.

For the most recent updates on product recalls, customers can visit the Product Recalls section on Costco’s official website. For recalls not limited to Costco, consumers can visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, FDA, USDA, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration websites, which all provide searchable recall databases.
