Popular Yogurt Products Recalled Nationwide Over ‘Choking’ Hazard

If you frequently eat yogurt, you may want to check your fridge. The latest food recall affects popular yogurt products distributed nationwide due to plastic contamination that may pose a choking hazard.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the voluntary recall of YoCrunch yogurt products on July 14. The products were sold at retail stores nationwide, and many are still labeled fresh according to their expiration dates. Danone U.S., the manufacturer of YoCrunch, is currently working with retail partners to ensure all recalled product is removed from shelves as soon as possible, per the FDA.
The products were recalled “due to the potential presence of plastic pieces in the dome topper,” according to the FDA. “If consumed, the plastic pieces could potentially cause a choking response.” The contamination was discovered following consumer complaints. The plastic pieces found in the dome topper “may have sharp edges,” and “some pieces are between seven and 25 mm in length,” the FDA noted.
