Popular product sold at Superdrug urgently recalled over ‘serious chemical risk’

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a product recall for one popular item, which is sold at Superdrug.
Soulcal & Co’s Body Mist has been marked as a presenting a “serious chemical risk,” due to it containing a chemical called butylphenyl methylpropional, which is not permitted for use in cosmetic products.
Batches pinpointed as affected by this issue are those sold by Farmfoods, and have been recalled from “end users by the manufacturer.”
The OPSS explained: “The product presents a serious chemical risk as it contains butylphenylmethylpropional (BMHCA/lilial), which is prohibited in cosmetic products.

“BMHCA may harm the reproductive system, may harm the health of the unborn child, and may cause skin sensitisation. The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009or the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013.”
Five fragrances from the Soulcal & Co line up have been impacted:
- Raspberry & Lotus Blossom
- Mango & Passion Fruit
- Apple & Waterlily
- Coco Plum & Jacaranda
- Beach Rose & Coconut Water
Each item comes in a 236ml bottle, which a variety of coloured packaging.
In response to the safety alert, the OPSS said: “The products have been recalled from end users by the manufacturer. Affected products have been withdrawn from sale by Farmfoods.”
Farmfoods has reportedly removed the sprays from its site, with customers who have previously bought the sprays advised to stop using the item immediately.

The official body’s warning states: “Owners of any of the affected products should stop using it immediately and return the product to the seller they purchased from for a full refund.”
Soulcal & Co Body Mists are sold at a variety of shops, including high street chain Superdrug.
While no official product recall warning has been issued by the beauty brand as of yet, when looking to purchase the fragrances online there is a banner across the screen which reads: “We’re sorry but this product is no longer available online.”
In addition, if you try and apply a postcode into the search engine for click and collect no instore availability is shown.
