Nationwide recall: Ritz cracker product may cause life-threatening allergic reactions

Mostly Sunny

A voluntary recall was initiated by the creator of Ritz crackers due to the product having a mislabeling error, which could pose a risk for those with peanut allergies.

Mondelēz Global LLC announced on Tuesday, July 8, that a recall was made for the 8-pack, 20-pack and 40-pack cartons of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches and the 20-pack of Ritz Filled Crack Sandwich Variety Pack carton, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected cartons, which were manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide, are individually wrapped packs that may be incorrectly labeled as cheese variety even though the crackers could be a peanut butter variety.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by consuming this product,” the FDA wrote in a statement.

All outer cartons affected are labeled correctly and provide an allergen advisory statement indicating that the product “contains peanuts.”

The recalled products are:

  • 11.4 ounce Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, 8-count (8 x 1.38 ounce 6-pack carton) with UPC 0 44000 88210 5 and best-by dates anywhere from Nov. 1, 2025 through Nov. 9, 2025

Cartons containing only Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches are not affected by this recall, the statement reads. In addition, cartons containing either Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches or Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack with different best-by dates than those listed above are not affected by this recall.

No reports of injury or illness have been reported to Mondēlez Global. However, consumers who have a peanut allergy are urged to toss the recalled crackers.
