Deli meats are some of the riskiest foods to eat if you’re concerned about foodborne illness. Though the majority are safe to consume, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the recall of bologna—this time, over undeclared ingredients. Specifically, over 143,000 pounds of meat and poultry bologna products from Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. are being recalled due to ingredients not found on the food label.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) shared the recall on Jun. 27, 2025, after the New Jersey-based company issued a recall of foods that were produced between March 20 and Jun. 20, 2025. The recall was initiated after FSIS received a complaint from the Office of Inspector General (OIG), who had been alerted that the meat contained source materials not included on the product’s label. These items included undeclared chicken, pork, and beef.

As a result, the company has issued a recall of the following items:

  • Family Tree Bologna Veal
  • Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna
  • Fancy Bologna
  • Gaiser’s Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna
  • Gaiser’s Bologna Veal
  • Gaiser’s Turkey Bologna
  • Chicken Bologna Kypoyka Paba

You can find a complete list of the items being recalled and what each product looks like by visiting the FSIS website.

According to the recall, these products were sold to both retail and wholesale locations. Each of the products features a bare establishment number on the inside of the USDA mark of inspection, which can be found on the product labels. The recalled products feature the number EST. 5385, and they would’ve been wrapped, weighed, and labeled in the stores at the time of purchase.

Fortunately, FSIS says that no illnesses have been reported as a result of this recall. Additionally, the statement from the agency says that FSIS doesn’t expect to receive any, which is why this recall has been given a Class III status. “A Class III recall involves a situation where use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences, or the risk is negligible,” the website states.

However, FSIS does say that anyone who experiences any sort of adverse health reactions as a result of consuming these products should call their healthcare provider immediately.
