Kawasaki has announced a global recall for select units of its 2024 and 2025 Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles, including popular variants like the KRT Edition and the 40th Anniversary model.

The recall comes after the company discovered a serious engine defect linked to crankshaft bolts that were possibly over-tightened during manufacturing, as per Bikewale.

This defect could lead to reduced oil clearance around the crankshaft bearing, increasing the risk of engine failure. In worst-case scenarios, it could even result in the engine seizing up without warning, posing a serious safety hazard.

Who Is Affected?

According to Kawasaki, around 17,800 units in the U.S. are affected, and similar actions are being taken in Europe, the UK, and other markets.

In the U.S., owners have been explicitly told not to ride the motorcycle until it has been checked and repaired. Kawasaki will contact affected owners directly and advise them to visit the nearest authorised service centre.

What Should Owners Do?

At the service centre, torque levels of the crankshaft bolts will be inspected. If needed, the bolts will be replaced free of charge. This is part of Kawasaki’s safety-first approach to ensure rider protection and product reliability.

What About India?

As of now, no official statement has been made about whether the recall will affect bikes sold in India. Riders in India who own a 2024 or 2025 Ninja ZX-6R are advised to stay alert for updates from Kawasaki India.
