There are always recalls to be aware of. Some can be minor, others more urgent.
This one is pretty important to be aware of, because there have been deaths associated with the recalled product.
The United States Department of Agriculture, or USDA, has issued a recall for pre-made chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals from FreshRealm, sold under Marketside at Walmart, and by Home Chef.
Here’s what you need to know.
Chicken Alfredo Recall Linked to Listeria Deaths
Both Walmart and Home Chef have made customers aware that pre-made fettuccine Alfredo dishes made by FreshRealm could cause listeria.
The products affected carry USDA inspection numbers EST. P‑50784, P‑47770, or P‑47718 and have “best by” dates on or before June 27, 2025.
The product has been sold in Iowa at both local Walmart stores and via Home Chef delivery.

Listeria from the FreshRealm product has now been linked to 17 reported cases of listeria infection across 13 states, causing 16 hospitalizations, 3 deaths, and 1 fetal loss.
The outbreak strain was found in a sample in March 2025 at a FreshRealm facility.
What is Listeria?
Listeria, or listeriosis, is a bacterium that, when you come in contact with it, could give you symptoms that include fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, GI issues, and potentially life-threatening complications.

It’s especially dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
What to Do If You Bought the Recalled Product
Despite having an expiration date that is coming up fast, many of us freeze food to keep it fresh longer.
If you purchased pre-made fettuccine Alfredo from Walmart or Home Chef since March, check to make sure it’s not included in the recall.

If it is, it’s best you ditch it to be safe.
As always, seek medical advice if you’ve consumed the meals and experience symptoms, especially if you’re pregnant or in a high-risk group.
