Ice Cream Recall Affects Louisiana and Texas
(KMDL-FM) I hate to break it to the masses who call Louisiana home, but it’s still not summer. Even though we’ve had heat indices into the triple-digits and summer showers and storms that would “strangle a toad”, we won’t officially be in “summer” until June 21.

While Louisiana waits for the calendar to catch up with Mother Nature, folks in Louisiana have been doing “summer” things already. A lot of us have made a trip to the beach. Many of us have taken a refreshing dip in a swimming pool.
And I would hazard to guess that a vast majority of us have imbibed in a cone, sundae, or half-gallon of churned milky goodness known as ice cream.

Ice cream is a true joy in life. When we have ice cream, we are in a happy state of mind. When we drop our ice cream, I don’t care how old you are or aren’t, the thought of crying comes to mind.
What Ice Cream Flavor Has Been Recalled?
One of the ice cream industry’s most popular flavors, Rocky Road, has been called into question because of a packaging miscue by a certain manufacturer. Actually, it’s not the flavor’s fault; the chocolatey nutty goodness of Rocky Road manufactured by Breyer’s Ice Cream has been recalled because it’s in the wrong container.
According to an FDA Alert, tubs of Breyer’s Rocky Road were mistakenly packaged in tubs labeled as Breyer’s Chocolate Truffle. The hazard brought about by that misstep is this. The packaging mix-up could expose those with allergies, specifically to nuts, to be exposed to those allergens without a label warning.
Are There Different Levels of FDA Recalls?
The FDA has a variety of product safety measures in place to protect consumers. Recalls are often defined by Class I, Class II, or Class III. Each class has its own criteria, plus the FDA site has other definitions for product safety that consumers should be aware of.
The FDA calls the recall a Class II. Which means the “use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote”.
The FDA Alert says the affected products contain the lot number JUL1026GB3 and UPC code 077567457288. If you have any of the affected product, you are encouraged to reach out to Unilever Manufacturing for refund or replacement information.
