Goodbye Honda – recalls more than 259,000 cars in the United States after detecting a defect that compromises the braking system
Honda is not one of those brands we’re used to seeing issuing recalls… but it has just announced an urgent recall of over 259,000 vehicles!!! A serious failure in the braking system has put the entire automotive sector on alert. The problem? A defect in the brake pedal pin that could hinder braking capacity… and therefore increase the risk of accidents.
The affected models are the Honda Pilot, as well as the Acura TLX and MDX. So far, no injuries have been reported, but stay with us, we’ll tell you more!
Which models are affected by the defect?
The brake failure affects several popular models from the Japanese brand. According to official documents from the NHTSA, they are:
- Honda Pilot (Model years: 2023, 2024, and 2025)
- Acura TLX (Model years: 2021 to 2025)
- Acura MDX (Model years: 2023 to 2025)
What’s happening with these cars
We’ll explain it better. Apparently, the pivot pin of the brake pedal was not assembled correctly, and this causes the pedal to come loose and the driver to be unable to brake properly – can you imagine what it’s like to have a car without brakes?
It also causes the warning lights to come on, or the brake lights to remain on even without pressing the pedal.
What does the recall report say?

How will Honda respond
For now, Honda has confirmed that all vehicles included in the recall will be inspected free of charge (as they should be!!) by authorized dealerships. In cases where the defect is detected, the brake pedal assembly will be replaced as soon as possible.
Notifications to dealerships began on June 13, and starting July 28, letters will be sent to owners of the affected vehicles. In the meantime, drivers can check if their car is involved by accessing the NHTSA portal or Honda’s verification system.
How did they find out?
The defect was first detected in April 2024, when Honda received a report about the malfunctioning brake pedal. After an investigation, it was discovered that the cause was poor pin fixation during the assembly process. As a side note, the plant where it was being assembled has been shut down… and now they’re being produced in Mexico, where camera sensors have been implemented to ensure the pin is properly fixed.
Is this Honda’s only recall?
Not at all, this year Honda has been quite present for the NHTSA. It turns out that this massive recall is joined by another one that includes 295,000 units due to a failure in the fuel injection software. This causes the car to shut off suddenly…
And these are not the only recalls they’ve had. Last year, they already had to respond to fuel leak issues in their SUVs… Maybe this just isn’t their year…
A timely recall is a victory, as they usually say, and even though it’s estimated that only 1% of vehicles may be affected, it’s better to act quickly and precisely before other problems arise. That’s why Honda is always on the podium of the most reliable vehicles!
