Goodbye Ford – recalls more than 200,000 cars due to a serious technical fault that could endanger lives
200,000 Ford vehicles are being recalled. This time, it is due to defects in the rearview camera that could put passenger safety at risk. In some cases, the camera stays blank, even after the vehicle is no longer in reverse, and in others, no image appears at all.
Of course, both situations compromise the safety of the vehicle and other road users, as the driver might not see what is happening behind the vehicle once reverse is engaged. Although no accidents or injuries have been reported so far, complaints from owners quickly followed and Ford got to work!
What is happening with these vehicles?
The rearview camera, the one that shows on the dashboard what is going on behind your vehicle, may seem simple but it shows in real time if someone is crossing behind your car or if you are getting too close to another vehicle. It is especially useful because there are places the human eye cannot reach, and by looking at the camera, we can keep the situation under control.
Which models are affected?
A total of 200,061 units are affected among the following models manufactured between 2018 and 2024, including both FORD and Lincoln models:
- Ford: Bronco Sport (2021–2024), EcoSport (2020–2021), Edge (2019–2020), Escape (2020–2022), Expedition (2020–2021), Explorer (2020–2024), F-150 (2019–2020), F-250 SD (2020–2022), Fusion (2019–2020), Maverick (2022–2024), Mustang (2019–2023), Ranger (2019–2023), Transit (2020–2023), Transit Connect (2018–2022).
- Lincoln: Aviator (2020–2023), Continental (2019–2020), Corsair (2020–2022), MK2 (2019–2020), Nautilus (2019–2020), Navigator (2020–2021).
The recall campaign has been registered under number 25S72.
What is the risk and how is it fixed?
According to FordAuthority, “a camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver’s rear visibility. An image that remains on after leaving reverse gear can be a distraction. Both situations increase the risk of a crash.”
No incidents have been recorded so far, but the risk has been considered high enough to trigger a recall.
Ford will update the faulty software free of charge at its dealerships. Notification letters will begin to be sent before July 28, 2025, and customers can get more information by calling 1-866-436-7332 or checking directly at www.nhtsa.gov using the recall number shown above.
Ford has dozens of recalls in 2025
This new case adds to a long list of Ford recalls… In fact, there are already over 80 active campaigns in just the first half of the year. What is happening to Ford? From seatbelt defects, assistance software problems… and now rearview camera issues too.
Technology: Progress or setback?
Of course we love getting into increasingly complex cars, but brands should also be aware that the more technology, the more inspections our vehicles need. At this point, for Ford at least, it is generating more losses than profits… and for us, it chips away at the trust we have in one of our favorite brands…
So, if you own one of these vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2024, check if your rear camera works or not. You might need to visit your nearest official dealership so they can inspect it and make sure your car is 100% safe! And no, you won’t spend a single dollar, Ford is committed to covering all the costs (as they should!). Keep paying attention to the news because another Ford recall could pop up at any moment.
