Food recall warning issued for canned tuna sold in Canada
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning for Century brand Flaked Light Tuna Hot & Spicy, due to undeclared wheat.
CFIA says the recalled products were distributed nationally. On Jan. 28, CFIA updated the recall warning to include the Century brand Light Tuna Flakes in Hot & Spicy Sauce, Flaked Light Tuna Hot & Spicy Style or Light Tuna Flakes Hot & Spicy Style.
“Do not consume recalled products to which you are allergic or sensitive,” the CFIA’s recall notice, originally published on Friday, Jan. 24, reads. “Do not consume the recalled products if you have celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders.”
Metro officials confirmed the product was sold at Metro and Food Basics stores. The recalled tuna was also sold through Amazon Canada and at Walmart Canada stores, according to recall notices posted on their respective websites.
Sobeys said the impacted canned tuna was sold at Sobeys, Foodland and Coop in the Atlantic provinces and Sobeys, Freshco and Foodland in Ontario. Sobeys, In western Canada, the tuna was sold at Safeway, IGA, Thrifty Foods, Freshco and Voila.
“To ensure the safety and well-being of our customers, we have promptly removed these items from our shelves,” said Sobeys.

The recall was triggered by CFIA test results. No reactions have been reported that are linked to the consumption of the recalled canned tuna.

The CFIA offers the following recommendations:
- Check to see if you have recalled products.
- Do not consume recalled products to which you are allergic or sensitive as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.
- If you have celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders, do not consume the recalled products, as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.
- Do not serve, use, sell or distribute recalled products.
- Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
