FDA Announces Recall on Ritz Crackers for Undeclared Life-Threatening Allergy

On July 8, 2025, Mondelez Global LLC issued a recall on select lots of its Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches due to a mislabeling error. The peanut butter cracker packages may be incorrectly labeled as cheese crackers and therefore do not have the peanut allergen warning declared on the label, which the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requires. The crackers have could cause serious and even life-threatening reactions in consumers with peanut allergies or sensitivities.

How To Identify the Recalled Ritz Crackers

The crackers were sold in 8-, 20-, and 40-packs of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches as well as 20-pack Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack.

To determine if you have the recalled peanut butter crackers, look for the following information on the packaging:

  • 8-count Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches: UPC 0 44000 88210 5; “best by” dates between Nov. 1 and Nov. 9, 2025; Plant Code AE
  • 20-count Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches: UPC 0 44000 07584 2; “best by” dates between Nov. 1 and Nov. 9, 2025, and Jan. 2, 2026 to Jan. 22, 2026; Plant Code AE
  • 40-count Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches: UPC 0 44000 07819 5; “best by” dates between Nov. 1 and Nov. 9, 2025, and Jan. 2, 2026 to Jan. 22, 2026; Plant Code AM
  • 20-count Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack: UPC 0 44000 08095 2; “best by” dates between Nov. 2 and Nov. 29, 2025; Plant Code RJ
  • 1.38-ounce individually wrapped Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches: UPC 0 44000 00211 4; “best by” dates between Nov. 1 and Nov. 9, 2025, and Jan. 2, 2026 to Jan. 22, 2026; Plant Code AE

You can find label photos of the recalled products on the FDA’s website.

Any cartons containing strictly Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches are not impacted by this recall. Additionally, no other Ritz or Mondelez products are being recalled at this time.

What To Do if You Have the Recalled Ritz Crackers

If you have the recalled Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches labeled as Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches and have a peanut allergy or sensitivity, you should not consume them as the crackers, as they could cause severe and even deadly reactions. Instead, throw the crackers away or return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund or replacement.

If you do not have a peanut allergy or sensitivity, you do not have to do anything regarding this recall. The Ritz crackers were recalled due to a mislabeling error where the packaging rolls used to wrap individual packets of crackers have the wrong information printed on them. They are not inherently unsafe to consume.

No allergies or adverse reactions have been reported at this time. For any questions regarding this recall, you can contact Mondelez at 1-844-366-1171.
