Dordt University Data Breach Lawsuit Investigation

Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Dordt University data breach.

As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.

Dordt University, a Christian liberal arts university located in Sioux Center, Iowa, recently experienced a data breach following a sophisticated cybersecurity incident. Upon detecting unauthorized network access, Dordt University launched an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity experts.

The investigation revealed that a limited amount of data might have been accessed and acquired from the university’s network between April 21, 2024 and May 16, 2024. A forensic investigation, completed by June 19, 2025, confirmed that the compromised information includes certain personal data.

According to a July 11, 2025 announcement on Dordt’s website, the type of information exposed in the data breach includes the following and varied by individual:

  • Personal identifiers: First and last names, dates of birth
  • Financial information: Account numbers, routing numbers, security codes
  • Government identifiers: Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers
  • Account credentials: Usernames and passwords
  • Health information: Health insurance information, medical information

According to a report submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the Dordt University data breach affected 34,251 individuals.

If your information was exposed in the data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.

A successful case could also force Dordt University to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
