Costco has issued safety warnings on nearly a dozen products sold both online and in-store, ranging from power banks to window air conditioners and bottled water. The slides include items from Costco Next, Costco’s direct-from-brand program, urging consumers to “stop using immediately.” Shoppers must act fast to ensure peace of mind and avoid potential health or safety risks.

Immediate Safety Actions & Affected Products

  1. Anker Power Banks (Models A1257 & A1263): Recalled due to overheating and fire risks tied to faulty lithium-ion cells. The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns users to stop using them immediately, and Anker is offering replacements or gift cards.
  2. Danby and Midea U-Shape Window Air Conditioners: Units may drain poorly, leading to mould growth and respiratory hazards. Consumers must disconnect and discontinue use.
  3. Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric and Bridgestone Blizzak 6 Tires: Michelin tires risk tread chunks detaching, while Bridgestone lacks DOT certification—both failing federal safety standards.

Household Items, Food And Health Hazards

  1. BowFlex Adjustable Dumbbells: Weight plates can detach unexpectedly, causing injuries, including concussions and fractures. CPSC reports over 350 incidents; consumers should stop using and return them for refunds.
  2. Igloo 90 qt Flip & Tow Cooler: Handle latch may crush or amputate fingers. Users are urged to stop using and request a free repair kit.
  3. Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker + Air Fryer: The lid can open while pressurised, presenting burn injuries. Users should not use the pressure function until replacement lids arrive.
  4. Topo Chico Mineral Water (18‑pack): Pseudomonas bacteria contamination found in glass bottles sold in Texas and Louisiana between May 20 and 29. At-risk individuals should return it for a refund.
  5. Fresh & Ready Sandwiches/Salads (AZ, CA, NV, WA): Select cases dated May 11 may carry Listeria monocytogenes, posing serious health risks to vulnerable groups. Discontinue use and return immediately.

How To Respond & Return At Costco

Affected Costco and Costco Next products require urgent user action. For items like Anker power banks, BowFlex dumbbells, Igloo coolers, ACs, tires, and Topo Chico water, Costco advises immediate discontinuation, safe storage, and return to the original purchase location for a full refund or replacement.

Electronics have a standard 90-day return policy, but recalls fall outside that window. Costco treats them with priority. Consumers should consult the recall notice for model numbers and replacement instructions.

Consumables like sandwiches, salads, and bottled water should be returned for full refunds, even after use, as recalls are exempt from regular no-return policies. Rest assured, retailers approved by the FDA, USDA, or CPSC, including Costco, stand by safety as their top priority.

What you can do next:

  • Verify your product: Check model numbers, lot codes, and serials against recall lists on Costco.com/products-recalls or through CPSC, FDA, USDA, and NHTSA websites.
  • Act immediately: Stop using and isolate the items. Dispose of hazardous components—like batteries—safely according to guidelines.
  • Return for refund or replacement: Bring the item with receipt or membership card to any Costco warehouse. Follow brand instructions for product repair kits or returns.
