Costco issues urgent recalls: Shoppers told to stop using power banks, air conditioners, tires, and more
Costco is urging customers across the U.S. to immediately stop using a wide range of products after a series of urgent recalls were issued for safety and health hazards. The recall list, released in early July 2025, covers nearly a dozen popular items sold both online and in stores—including electronics, home appliances, tires, and even bottled water—prompting swift action from shoppers and the retailer alike.
What’s on the recall list?
Among the most notable products affected:
- Anker Powercore 10000 Power Bank (Model A1263):
Recalled due to overheating and potential fire risk. Sold through Costco Next, the recall notice warns that faulty lithium-ion cells could cause the device to overheat. Anker is offering replacements or gift cards for returned units. - Danby and Midea U-Shape Window Air Conditioners:
These units may drain poorly, leading to mold growth and respiratory hazards. Customers are told to disconnect and discontinue use immediately. - Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric and Bridgestone Blizzak 6 Tires:
Michelin tires risk tread chunks detaching, while Bridgestone tires lack DOT certification, failing federal safety standards. Both pose significant driving hazards and must be replaced. - Topo Chico Mineral Water (Select Lot Codes in Texas and Louisiana):
Recalled due to potential glass contamination. Customers are advised to check lot codes and return affected cases for a full refund. - Fresh and Ready Foods Prepared Sandwiches and Salads (AZ, CA, NV, WA):
Pulled from shelves over concerns of bacterial contamination at select Business Center locations. - Other Items:
Recalls also affect certain dumbbells, additional air conditioner models, and frozen berries (the latter due to possible Hepatitis A contamination).
Why the recalls?
The recalls were prompted by reports of injuries, fire risks, microbial contamination, and manufacturing defects. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), FDA, and other agencies have directed Costco to alert customers and remove the affected products from circulation immediately.
What should shoppers do?
Costco advises all customers to:
- Stop using the recalled products immediately.
- Isolate hazardous components (like batteries) if instructed.
- Return affected items to any Costco warehouse for a full refund, or follow manufacturer recall instructions for replacement or compensation.
For food recalls, dispose of contaminated items safely and check Costco’s website for affected lot numbers and locations.
