Coolers sold at Walmart Canada, Costco, Amazon recalled
More than one million Igloo portable coolers are being recalled in Canada, Mexico and the United States due to potential “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.”

Igloo coolers recalled
The recall is for Igloo 90-Quart Flip and Tow Rolling Coolers, which come in a variety of colours, and Igloo Products Corp. is voluntarily recalling the coolers sold.
The issue is the tow handle of the coolers can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, “posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.”
The products were manufactured prior to January 2024.
Health Canada is recalling Igloo 90-Quart Flip and Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured prior to January 2024.
Where were the coolers sold?
According to the U.S. alert, the cooler was sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s and other stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites from January 2019 through January 2025 for between $80 and $140.
Amazon Canada updated its recalls and safety alerts page on Feb. 13 to include the cooler. Costco and Walmart Canada also posted recall alerts for the coolers sold at their stores.
While no injuries had been reported in Canada as of Feb. 3, Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission are asking customers to immediately stop using the product.
In the U.S., there have been 12 reports of fingertip injuries, which include amputations, bone fractures and lacerations.
“The recalled coolers have a tow handle. “IGLOO” is on the side of the coolers,” Health Canada said in its press release. “The coolers were sold in multiple body and lid colour combinations.”
Manufactured in the U.S., it is estimated 1,060,000 were sold in the States, with about 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.
In Canada, Igloo is offering customers a free replacement handle.
When handling the cooler to inspect for the model number and date code, make sure to avoid putting your fingers near the pinch points in the tow handle, the company said on its website.
You can identify the manufacture date by checking the date code, found under the cooler. If the date code on your cooler is January 2024 or later, your cooler is not affected, and you do not need to take any further steps.
