As of June 5, Midea has issued a recall on 1.7 million of its popular window air conditioning units. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, water can pool inside the air conditioners and then fail to drain and lead to mold growth, which can pose health risks affecting the respiratory system and other infections to consumers.
The devices are best-known for their quiet nature and U-shaped design that allow the window to shut and natural light to flow through either side of the units. But there are plenty of viable replacements that rival the recalled units.
