A batch of well-known children’s ice creams has been pulled from stores and recalled due to a labelling error, prompting a warning to parents to prevent their children from consuming them. The mistake could have severe consequences for those with specific allergies.

The affected product, Wall’s Mini Milk Vanilla Strawberry and Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies, comes in a pack of 10 and contains milk, soya, pistachios, and peanuts – all potentially serious allergens that are not declared on the label.

As a result, the Food Standards Agency has issued a critical DO NOT EAT warning as the product recall is underway, coinciding with the current heatwave that has many reaching for frozen treats, , reports the Mirror.

In an Allergy Alert statement, the FSA cautioned: “Unilever UK recalls Wall’s Mini Milk Vanilla Strawberry and Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies because they contain milk and may contain nuts (pistachios), peanuts and soya which are not mentioned in English on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to nuts (pistachios) and/or an allergy to peanuts and/or soya.”

The warning applies to items with batch codes L5123, L5126, L5127, L5128, L5129, L5141, and L5142, and a best before date of May 2027.

Mini Milks were mis-labelled

The FSA further stated: “Unilever is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations.

“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to nuts (pistachios) and/or an allergy to peanuts and/or soya, do not eat it. For further information and a refund, please contact the Unilever careline team at ukicare@unilever.com”.

For individuals with allergies, even minor exposure can trigger potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis – a reaction characterised by difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, throat swelling, and loss of consciousness.

Unilever has announced that it is withdrawing the product from sale and has reached out to allergy support organisations to help spread awareness.

Allergy campaigners have consistently warned that inconsistent or unclear food labelling poses a risk to vulnerable individuals, especially when labels are printed in foreign languages or lack necessary allergen declarations.

The recall of these popular frozen children’s treats comes as the UK braces for a heatwave, with many likely to turn to their freezers for something to cool down.

Extreme heat warnings have been issued across much of England, with temperatures expected to hit 35C in what could be one of the hottest June days on record.

The Met Office has forecasted that temperatures will rise above 30C in many parts of England, including cities like Manchester, Sheffield, Bristol and Cambridge, with London and south-east England expected to reach a scorching 35C.

Amber heat health warnings for Yorkshire and the Humber, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West have been extended into Wednesday morning.
