Shine Tom Chacko Recalls Tragic Car Accident That Claimed His Father’s Life
Popular Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko opened up for the first time about the devastating car accident that took place in June near Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, which tragically claimed the life of his father, C.P. Chacko. The actor was en route to Bengaluru with his family when a lorry rammed into their car. The accident not only resulted in the sudden loss of his father but also left Shine and his mother injured. Recently, he recounted the traumatic experience and the emotional toll it continues to take on him and his family.
Shine Tom Chacko talks about car accident
Shine revealed he was lying in the back seat when the crash occurred. He recalled asking his father for a biscuit multiple times before falling back asleep, only to wake up to a wrecked vehicle and silence from his father. He told The Cue, “When I opened my eyes, the vehicle had already crashed. I was in the back. After that, daddy never communicated with any of us again.”
He further added that they didn’t realise that the accident happened so suddenly, “Mommy is asking, ‘Why are we lying on this road? Where are we going?’ Until then, an accident was just a sight to me. But when you go through it yourself…I truly broke down and cried, standing on the road, ‘Someone please come and help, someone please get us to the hospital’.”
Shine got more than 30 stitches
The impact of the accident left his mother Mariya with a dislocated hip, and Shine himself sustained serious injuries, including a spinal crack and multiple stitches. “I asked the doctor if there were about 10 stitches, and he replied there were between 10 to 30,” he shared. His brother Joe, who was seated in the front, miraculously escaped with minor chest pain from the seatbelt. The Good Bad Ugly actor said he doesn’t remember everything clearly because he was on sleeping medication as part of his rehab. That’s also why his father never let him drive. Shine shared that he was badly hurt and needed around 30 stitches.
Photos and videos of a teary-eyed Shine giving a final farewell to his father had earlier gone viral. The family performed the final rites on June 9 in Mundar, Kerala. Shine’s sisters, Sumi and Riya, flew in from New Zealand to be with the family during this heartbreaking time.
While Shine is recovering from his physical injuries, he admitted that the emotional healing has been far more difficult. He spoke of the helplessness he felt immediately after the accident, standing on the road and crying out for help. His mother, he added, still hasn’t fully come to terms with her husband’s death and continues to ask about his whereabouts.
“Mummy would keep asking, ‘Where is Daddy? Where is Daddy?’ He was right beside us, travelling in the next seat. I would say, ‘Daddy is with us; he hasn’t gone anywhere.’ Then I’d cry. I’d hope she would understand. But after a while, she’d ask again, ‘Where is Daddy?’ She is the one who lost the most. She lost her companion.”
The tragedy has left a deep scar on Shine and his family.
