Ford Recalls Popular Vehicle Model Over Potential Safety Threat to Kids

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for certain models in the United States, affecting nearly 200,00 vehicles due a safety malfunction.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects 197,432 vehicles due to issues affecting the electrical system and the latches and locks on the cars.

The issue can cause the electric door latches to remain locked if the car has a low battery.

This recall comes two months after Ford issued two larger recalls, which affected more than 148,000 vehicles nationwide.

One issue, affecting more than 123,000 cars, could cause brake fluid to leak, thus reducing brake functionality. The second issue, which affected approximately 24,000 cars, could cause a vehicle rollaway and a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash.

Why Is Ford Recalling Nearly 200,000 Vehicles?

The NHTSA reported that Ford is recalling certain vehicles due an issue with the electrical system.

If there is a low battery charge, this can cause the electronic door latches to remain locked after the driver or front passenger leaves the vehicle and shuts the door. This could potentially lead to a backseat passenger being trapped in the vehicle, such as a child, who aren’t able to use the inside door release handles.

A recall acknowledgement noted that the inability to enter or exit the vehicle in the case of emergency can lead to an increase in the risk of injury.

The NHTSA safety recall report noted that a warning of this issue includes customer noticing the SYNC screen displaying a message reading “system off to save power” or a blank screen.

Additionally, when exiting the car through one of the front doors, customers may notice that the inside release handle has to be pulled further than usual to be able to open the door.

What Ford Cars Are Being Recalled?

The recall was issued across 197,432 vehicles affected certain 2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles.

Per the NHTSA safety recall report, the recalled part was produced between Feb. 24, 2020, and June 3, 2025.

For those affected by the recall, dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module and Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module software for free.

How Do I Know If My Ford Car Has Been Recalled?

The NHTSA reported that owners will be notified of the recall via interim letters, set to be mailed from June 23 to June 27, 2025. Once the remedy for the issue is available, a second letter will be mailed, with an anticipated start date of Sept. 29 and an expected completion of October 3, 2025 .
