California Health Alert Over Chicken Nuggets: ‘Should Be Thrown Away’

Dinosaur shaped festive chicken nuggets are the subject of a public health alert by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), after they were imported into the U.S. without reinspection.

The ready-to-eat frozen breaded nuggets were sold in one Costco at 7095 Marketplace Dr, Goleta, California, 93117.

No recall has been issued because the nuggets are no longer available to purchase, but the FSIS has stated that it is “concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers.”

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the statement said.

Sold under the brand “yummy,” the nuggets were described on the festive cardboard packaging as “Dino Buddies Holiday Nuggets” and “breaded nugget shaped white meat chicken patties.”

The products have a “best if used by date” of November 6, 2024, and a lot code of “#241556,” as well as the numbers “348” in a Canadian establishment seal.

They were sold in 5lb green cardboard boxes, decorated with images of Christmas trees, snow, a red ribbon, and purple and yellow dinosaur cartoons.

The packaging displayed that the nuggets were shaped as reindeer, holiday trees, gingerbread men, snowmen, candy canes and stockings.

The nuggets were shipped to California from Canada, and the safety alert does not specify how they might be dangerous to public health, only that they “did not receive the benefit of import reinspection.”

Another safety alert was recently updated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration after two more supplement products were found to contain a toxic plant called yellow oleander.

Ongoing recalls include a chocolate bar that contains undeclared milk, cucumbers linked to a salmonella outbreak and pasta sauce that may contain undeclared egg.
