Jaguar Land Rover recalls 21,000 vehicles in the U.S.: Here’s why – Car News

Jaguar Land Rover has issued a major safety recall for select 2021–2025 Range Rover Evoque models in the U.S. due to a critical defect in the front passenger airbag.

The hits just keep on coming for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in the U.S. market. First, it was faced with an additional 25% tariff on imported cars, and now the company has issued a recall of almost 21,000 vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered the problem during internal testing and subsequently verified it. To date, there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this issue. NHTSA has stated the recall of these vehicles in the United States due to torn passenger airbags that may not adequately protect an occupant in a crash.

Jaguar Land Rover recall: Which cars are affected?

JLR North America is recalling 20,999 vehicles in the United States because passenger airbags may be torn and could fail to provide sufficient protection during a collision, raising the risk of injury, according to the NHTSA. The organisation further stated that JLR is recalling 2021–2025 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. The passenger airbag may tear during deployment. NHTSA said, “Dealers will replace the passenger airbag module free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 29, 2025.” They have also confirmed that no crashes or injuries have been reported so far.

Safety concerns with Range Rover Evoque airbags

A critical safety issue has been identified in the front passenger airbag of certain 2021–2025 Range Rover Evoque models, where the airbag may tear upon deployment. This defect can significantly compromise the airbag’s performance during a crash, potentially failing to provide adequate protection to passengers. Additionally, the tear could allow hot gases to escape, posing a risk of burn injuries. In the event of a front-end collision, this malfunction increases the likelihood of severe injuries, making it essential for owners to address the issue promptly. Jaguar Land Rover has acknowledged the defect and is taking proactive steps to ensure customer safety by offering a free replacement of the faulty airbag module. Owners are urged to verify if their vehicle is affected and take immediate action to mitigate these risks.

Jaguar Land Rover’s response and owner actions

To resolve this issue, Jaguar Land Rover is implementing a comprehensive recall plan. By July 21, 2025, dealers will be notified, and recall letters will be mailed to affected owners by August 29, 2025, detailing the free replacement process. Customers who previously paid for similar airbag repairs are eligible for reimbursement, provided they submit proper documentation. Owners of 2021–2025 Range Rover Evoque models should visit the Jaguar Land Rover USA recall website or use the NHTSA recall lookup tool, entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to confirm if their vehicle is part of the recall. If affected, owners should contact their nearest Land Rover service centre to schedule the free airbag module replacement. For those seeking reimbursement, collecting and submitting repair receipts is crucial. Acting swiftly ensures the vehicle meets safety standards and protects passengers from the risks associated with the defective airbag.
