A slew of egg brands in Canada are being pulled from shelves due to potential salmonella contamination.
On Saturday, January 18, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) sounded the alarm that eggs from six suppliers might be tainted with the harmful bacteria, cautioning consumers to avoid eating them.
According to The Independent, the egg brands ensnared in the CFIA’s recall include Golden Valley, Compliments, Foremost, IGA, No Name, and Western Family. A variety of pack sizes and quantities are implicated, with a detailed rundown available on the CFIA’s website.

Customers who have snagged any of the compromised egg packs are being advised to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Authorities also recommend against serving or selling the recalled products.
This egg recall follows on the heels of Costco’s withdrawal of 24-count cartons of Kirkland eggs from US outlets after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected a risk of Salmonella contamination, reports the Daily Record.
In December 2024, the FDA disclosed that the recall was classified as “Class 1”, indicating the highest level of risk, suggesting that exposure to the product could lead to “serious adverse health consequences or death”.
This high-risk classification emerged just a month after approximately 10,800 units were involved in a recall impacting Costco locations throughout the Southern United States.
What exactly is salmonella, and what symptoms does it present?
Salmonella is a prevalent bacterial infection that impacts the intestinal tract of both animals and humans. It’s currently one of the primary causes of foodborne illness in the United States.
Food tainted with this bacteria may not always appear or smell spoiled, but it can still cause sickness if ingested. Individuals with compromised immune systems, such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly, are most susceptible.
The Mayo Clinic lists symptoms of salmonella as diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, nausea, chills, headache, and bloody stool. While most instances resolve independently within a few days, those experiencing symptoms are advised to consult a doctor if they persist.
