Several foods are being recalled in Canada due to listeria, E. coli, bone fragments & more

Canada’s got a fresh batch of food recalls, and as usual, the list is stacked.

From bacterial contamination to undeclared allergens — and even a few surprise ingredients that definitely shouldn’t be in your lunch — the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is waving the red flag on a bunch of foods across the country.

Among the products recalled are sliced mushrooms, ice pops and multiple kinds of cheese — including some linked to listeria and E. coli. Certain sandwiches sold at popular retailers like Circle K have also been recalled due to bone fragments, and some sweet treats are being pulled for missing allergen labels.

The product recalls span multiple categories and were stocked in multiple provinces across Canada, so it’s worth checking your fridge, freezer and snack stash. Whether you’re grocery shopping for the week or grabbing a quick bite on the go, it’s worth checking to see if any of these products ended up in your cart.

To keep you in the loop, here’s everything you need to know about some of the latest CFIA food recalls in Canada — including where the products were sold, what brands are affected and what to do if you’ve already bought one.

Mushrooms

Recalled products:

  • Peeters Mushroom Farm Sliced Mushrooms, 227 g — best before July 4, 2025
  • Peeters Mushroom Farm Cremini Sliced, 227 g — best before July 4, 2025
  • unbranded Thin Sliced Mushroom, 2.27 kg — lot code 175 190
  • unbranded Thick Sliced Mushroom, 2.27 kg — lot code 175 190

Recall reason: Wiet Peeters Farm Products is recalling several types of sliced mushrooms due to possible listeria contamination. The affected products were sold in Ontario and Quebec. This recall was triggered by CFIA test results, though no illnesses have been reported so far.

Listeria can be especially dangerous for pregnant people, older adults and those with weakened immune systems. If you have any of the recalled mushrooms, Health Canada says to throw them out or return them — even if they look and smell fine.

Recalled product: Natural Pastures Cheese Company Mount Becher Buffalo Medium Cheese, ~150 g — Batch #854 263; best before October 2, 2025

Recall reason: Natural Pastures Cheese Company is recalling a batch of its Mount Becher Buffalo Medium Cheese from retail stores in Ontario due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant people, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. The CFIA classifies this as a Class 1 recall, which means the health risk is considered high. Any affected cheese should not be sold, served or eaten — even if it doesn’t look or smell spoiled.

Chocolate

Nussbeisser Czekolada mleczna z calymi orzechami laskowymi, 100 g

Nussbeisser

Recalled product: Nussbeisser Czekolada mleczna z calymi orzechami laskowymi (Polish only, translates to “milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts”) 100 g

Recall reason: Eurogrocer is recalling this imported Nussbeisser-brand chocolate with hazelnuts due to undeclared milk. The affected product was stocked in Alberta and features labelling only in Polish, which may not clearly communicate allergen information to all consumers.

Anyone with a milk allergy should avoid this chocolate, as eating it could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction. Retailers are being advised not to sell or serve the product, and it should be removed from stock immediately.

Ice pops

Snowtime

Recalled product: Snowtime Berry Ice Smoothie Pops, 700 ml

Recall reason: Dollarama is recalling these ice smoothie pops because they contain milk that isn’t listed on the label. The recall applies to products with best-before dates before September 7, 2026, and the affected pops were stocked at Dollarama locations across Canada and on Amazon.

This is a Class 2 recall, which means the risk is moderate but still important — especially for people with a milk allergy. Anyone with a sensitivity to milk should avoid eating these smoothie pops, as they could trigger a serious allergic reaction.

Chaeban

Recalled product: Chaeban Mediterani Mascarpone Fresh Soft Cheese, 250 g — best before August 1, 2025; lot code 2025050201

Recall reason: Chaeban Ice Cream is recalling its Mediterani Mascarpone Fresh Soft Cheese due to the presence of generic E. coli. The affected product was stocked in several provinces, including Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

According to Health Canada, while this type of E. coli isn’t known to cause illness, it is used by the CFIA as a sanitation indicator during food safety investigations. This recall is classified as Class 2, meaning the health risk is considered moderate. The product should be pulled from stock and not consumed.

Recall reason: Distribution Le Perco Inc. is recalling a range of C’est Prêt! and Circle K brand chicken sandwiches after pieces of bone were found in the products. The affected items were stocked in Ontario and Quebec. If you have any of the recalled sandwiches, the CFIA advises removing them from stock and not serving or eating them.

This comes just over a week after a recall of cooked diced chicken for the same reason. While the CFIA hasn’t confirmed whether the recalls are related, the earlier recall was for chicken distributed to restaurants and other food prep businesses in Quebec.
