Popular Ritz Snack Crackers Recalled for Allergy Risk

A nationwide recall has been issued for a popular brand of snack crackers after a packaging mix-up put some consumers at serious risk.

The recall includes Ritz Bits Cheese cracker sandwiches, which were distributed in Michigan and throughout the United States. Some packages may actually contain peanut butter sandwich crackers instead, posing a potentially serious risk to people with peanut allergies.

What’s Being Recalled?

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Mondelēz Global LLC has announced a voluntary recall of four carton sizes of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches.

The affected products include 8-pack, 20-pack, and 40-pack cartons of RITZ Peanut Butter Crackers, as well as the 20-pack RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack.

According to the FDA’s announcement, the affected cartons contain individually wrapped packages that may be incorrectly labeled as cheese. However, the snack cracker sandwiches may actually be filled with peanut butter, posing a potentially life-threatening situation for anyone with a peanut allergy.
