Ford Recalls 850K Vehicles for Fuel Pump Issue

If you drive a Ford or Lincoln and your vehicle is from the past few model years, you might want to check your mail – and maybe your gas tank. Ford just announced a major recall that could impact more than 850,000 vehicles across the U.S., and some of those are definitely cruising around right here in the Tri-State.

What’s Behind the Ford Recall?

Here’s what’s going on: there’s a problem with the low-pressure fuel pump that could fail while you’re driving. The worst-case scenario is your engine stalls while driving – and obviously, that’s not a situation you want to be in.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall affects a wide range of popular models, including certain Ford Broncos, Explorers, F-150s, Mustangs, and Expeditions, as well as Lincoln Aviators and Navigators from model years 2021 through 2023.

What to Watch for on the Road

Ford says they’ll start sending out notification letters to vehicle owners, explaining the issue and what to look out for – things like reduced engine power or a check engine light could be signs of trouble. And here’s something else to keep in mind – this issue is more likely to pop up during warm weather or with a low fuel tank, so summertime driving could increase the risk.

When Will the Fix Be Available?

Right now, a fix is still in the works, but once it’s ready, owners will receive another letter telling them to bring their car into an authorized dealer. The repair will be completely free.

Ford says they’re not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to this issue, but if your car is on the list, don’t ignore the warning signs. Better safe than stranded on Green River Road!

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
