RITZ Cracker Recall Issued Due to Dangerous Allergen Mix-Up

RITZ Cracker sandwiches are a staple snack for kiddos—but a new recall could make it more dangerous to indulge in them, especially if you or a loved one has food allergies. Some packages of the RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches are being recalled, as individually wrapped packages within the carton may have been mislabeled as the Cheese variety. The mixup could lead to people with allergies eating crackers that contain a dangerous ingredient for them, according to a news release from the FDA and Mondelēz Global LLC, the RITZ manufacturer. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by consuming this product,” the statement says.

The outer carton packaging on these products has the correct allergen labeling that says “contains peanuts,” but if the individually packaged crackers are separated from the main carton, they could be inadvertently eaten by someone who has a peanut allergy.

So far, there have been no reports of injury or illness due to the mislabeled products.
