5 recalls that should be on your radar

Recalls have become crucial to protecting public health and safety.

From the cars you drive, to the food you eat, to the products you use every day, recalls serve as urgent alerts that some of these products we trust can impact our safety.

These recalls can happen due to contamination, design flaws and burn risks, to name a few reasons.

Here are the most important food, product, and car recalls you should know about for the week of June 15-22.

Ford recalls 300K Mach-E vehicles due to defect that can lock people inside

Ford announced it would be recalling more than 300,000 Mach-E vehicles due to a defect with the battery that can leave customers locked out of the vehicles.

This could leave passengers remaining in the vehicle who are unable to use the indoor handle to get out to become trapped inside the vehicle.

No injuries have been reported to date.

A software update to fix the problem is being developed.

Electric blankets sold at Walmart recalled after reports of overheating and burn injuries

Yumo is recalling 8,560 MaxKare Electric Blankets exclusively sold at Walmart due to overheating.

The blankets can overheat, causing fire and burn risks, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Yumo received 34 reports of the blankets overheating, including three reports of burn injuries. There were also two reports that the blankets caught on fire.

The blankets were sold in three sizes for different beds: 62 inches by 84 inches (twin), 72 inches by 84 inches (full) and 84 inches by 90 inches (queen).

They come in brown and gray and are machine washable.

Consumers should stop using the recalled blankets, and contact Yumo for safe disposal instructions and to get a full refund.

Nearly 250K mini-fridges recalled due to fire and burn hazards

AstroAI is recalling nearly 250,000 mini-fridges due to fire and burn risks.

The mini-fridges can short-circuit and catch fire, and even possibly cause burns, according to the CPSC.

The CPSC “received at least 70 reports of the mini-fridges smoking, burning, melting or catching fire,” according to the agency.

Two of those fires caused a total of $360,000 in property damage.

The mini-fridges were sold on Amazon and AstroAI’s website from June 2019 to June 2022 for about $40.

Consumers should stop using the mini-fridges and send AstroAI a photo of the affected product with “recalled” written on it in permanent marker so they can receive a replacement mini-fridge.

The existing mini-fridges should be disposed of at local hazardous waste facilities.

100K mattresses sold exclusively on Amazon recalled due to fire hazard risks

Crayan Mattresses is recalling about 100,000 mattresses exclusively sold on Amazon due to fire hazard risks.

The 10-inch and 12-inch Crayan Mattresses sold in twin, full, queen and king sizes were sold between July 2022 and June 2024 for $100-$220 depending on the model, according to the CPSC.

Consumers should stop using the mattresses and take a photo of the mattresses marked in permanent ink with the word “recalled” in big letters.

The photo should be sent to crayan_service@hotmail.com to confirm that it will be disposed of, and then, the company will give a full refund.

Chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals sold at Walmart recalled after 3 deaths, 17 illnesses

FreshRealm is recalling some chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals after three people died and 17 people became sick after eating them due to listeria contamination.

The company issued the recall Tuesday for ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals sold nationwide at Walmart and Kroger sold under the brand names Marketside and Home Chef, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The listeria outbreak killed three people, caused one pregnancy loss and hospitalized 16 others, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The deaths were reported in Illinois, Michigan and Texas while the illnesses were reported in 13 states.

The following ready-to-eat meals fall under this recall, according to FSIS:

  • 32.8-ounce tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with best-by date 06/27/25 or prior
  • 12.3-ounce tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with best-by date 06/26/25 or prior
  • 12.5-ounce tray packages containing “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese” with best-by date 06/19/25 or prior

Consumers who may have purchased the products are urged not to eat them. They should either throw them out or return them to their place of purchase.

The CDC also recommends cleaning any surfaces the meal may have touched due to listeria’s spreadable nature.
